Overview Of The Position

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the entire Newport Sea Base facility, including the physical plant and all boats, equipment, buildings, grounds, and docks.  Performs site maintenance and janitorial work and/or supervises court referrals in these tasks.  The Facility Manager is responsible for the boat donation and sales program. Is able to handle matters confidentially and with the strictest security when the need arises, whether the item(s) are labeled confidential or not.  Work as a cooperative and friendly member of the Newport Sea Base team.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Monitors and controls security and safety of the Newport Sea Base.
  2. Oversees the repair & maintenance for all program boats and engines. Must be skilled at fiberglass repair, maintenance and repair of gas and diesel engines, must have a working knowledge of sail boats and power boats, sailboat rigging, and electronics. Communicate any needs or problems to Director immediately.  Maintain and monitor accurate records and maintenance logs.
  3. Responsible for site repair & maintenance as needed for the facilities, landscape, parking lot, and docks. Communicate any needs or problems to the Director immediately. Maintain and monitor accurate records and maintenance logs.
  4. In conjunction with the Director, oversees and administrates the Boat Donation Program (including the vessel, equipment, gear, etc.) in all steps of the donation, sales transactions, DMV accounting and reporting to the Director. Responsible for securing income and managing expenses to net budgeted amount for this cost center every year. Works with the Director and the Newport Sea Base Sub-Committee to execute.
  5. Responsible for equipment check in/out during weekend and off-season usage. Communicates regularly and directly with the Office Manager regarding scheduling and equipment availability.
  6. Keep and manage a perpetual inventory of Newport Sea Base equipment and supplies. Maintain a current in-kind donation list. Regularly report donations to Director and quarterly to Council.
  7. Develop and implement an updated Newport Sea Base maintenance calendar in conjunction with the Council Strategic Plan, with the approval of the Director and the Newport Sea Base Committee.  Make recommendations for on-going property development and maintenance.
  8. Directs Court Referral Program in order to maintain positive working relationship with County Volunteer Services, including accurately completing all related paperwork in a timely manner and keeping proper records.  Supervise court referrals and other volunteers for the Council to improve the Newport Sea Base property. Work with court referral’s, Sea Scout Ships, and volunteer groups to help focus their manpower to improve the Newport Sea Base facility.
  9. Responsible for the overall janitorial duties of the facility. Directs the maintenance of facility restrooms, classrooms, offices, and is charged to keep the shops clean and safe.
  10. Establish and maintain a close working relationship with local, county, state, and federal agency officials related to Newport Sea Base operations and protection.
  11. Conduct safety orientations to staff and volunteer groups.  Work with the Council Risk Management Committee to insure the safety and readiness of the facility and its equipment.
  12. Be able to report on duties and achievements to the Newport Sea Base Committee as needed.
  13. Assist Program Coordinator in properly training instructors and volunteer groups in correct boat and outboard care and usage.  Help to monitor usage so as to avoid damage.
  14. Ensure compliance with national BSA camp standards and ACA accreditation.
  15. Help develop and stay within the approved Newport Sea Base budgets and sits on Council Facility Sub-Committee.
  1. Maintain up-to-date Safety and Risk Management information for the facility, including information as it relates to on-site sickness or injury of volunteers, participants, or employees.  Maintain security system information and oversee follow up for false alarms, tripped alarms, tests, and other related paperwork.  Oversee quarterly fire sprinkler testing and annual certification of all fire extinguishers.

Additional Requirements

  • Good driving record.
  • Criminal background check required and must be meet registration requirements of BSA.
  • Desirable certifications and skills include, but not limited to: current Captain’s license, experienced sailing skills & knowledge, CPR and first aid.

Compensation

  • Non-exempt, salaries position
  • Housing provided, must live on-site and all utilities are included.  Cell phone and vehicle provided for business use.
