Scouting’s founder, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, once said “The most important object in Boy Scout training is to educate, not instruct.” To that end, the Orange County Council presents the 2012 University of Scouting. This premier council-wide event affords Scout Leaders the opportunity to become educated by the best trainers in the Orange County Council. Over 100 classes will be offered, covering a wide variety of general interest classes, as well as program-specific classes for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Sea Scouting and High Adventure. Attendees of this “collegiate-oriented” experience will be able to take up to seven different classes over the course of one day. A fully-populated Midway will feature BSA booths as well as community and vendor booths. During the lunch hour, attendees will be treated to an authentic Wood Badge Beading ceremony.
The singular purpose of this event is to produce better educated Scout Leaders, so we may deliver the “Promise of Scouting” to the youth of Orange County. Nowhere else will you be able to take advantage of such a wide variety of educational subjects taught by such a qualified group of instructors, all in one day. Whether you are an adult new to the program or a seasoned veteran, we guarantee you will learn much and benefit greatly.
Registration is now open. We recommend that you register as soon as possible to ensure that you get the classes you want. Consider bringing multiple leaders from your unit to further leverage the classes available.
