Basic Leader Training

Boy Scouts of America’s adult leader training program is the culmination of several years of work by professionals and volunteers from throughout the nation. The current training program is a seamless training experience that helps leaders easily graduate through the courses quickly and with little duplication. It begins with Youth Protection Training and is followed by leader specific training for each adult’s current registered role.Details about what is required for an adult leader to be eligible to wear the “Trained” emblem: 11 14 What makes trnd ldr

Boy Scouts of America’s online basic training courses are accessible from: MyScouting.org .

  1. In order to receive credit for the completion of any online training course a participant must enter their BSA Membership Number (recorded on their annual BSA Membership Card distributed by their primary unit’s committee chair, or contact the Orange County Council Service Desk for assistance: 714-546-4990). If a membership number is not recorded a participant will not receive credit for the training.
  2. After completing any “live”/in person training course make sure you present your training completion certificate and/or signed Training Card to your unit’s training chair so your unit’s training records may be updated.
  3. The course director for all “live”/in person training courses is responsible for submitting to council a list of participants who completed the training. This list should record/update your training history at a district and a council level. A month after completion of the training course check your training record to make sure the completion of the course was correctly recorded in all related areas. If you are unsure of how to check your records contact your home unit’s training chair or your district training chair or your district’s paid professional. Your committee chair can put you in contact with your unit’s training chair and this link will connect you with a list of each district’s training chairs and paid professionals: ocbsa.org/leaders-volunteers/training/counciltrainingcommittee   .
