WOOD BADGE TRAINING  WOODBDGE

Wood Badge is the ultimate leadership training experience designed to meet the leadership needs for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, and Venturing Leaders as well as district and council leaders. This course is a multifaceted interactive presentation of leadership concepts not only relevant to our values-based Scouting movement, but also widely employed by corporate America and leading government organizations. You’ll experience fellowship of learning in a fun-filled way from volunteers of like-minded Scouters.

The practical portion will be conducted in a pair of three-day, two weekend sessions. Between these two weekends, you will be required to participate in patrol meetings, with the location and time to be determined by each patrol. Upon completion of the practical course, your work continues on an individual basis as you “work your ticket,” a written contract with yourself that must be completed within 18 months in order to earn your Wood Badge Beads. Course size is limited, so registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

We commend you for the job that you are now doing in Scouting, but we are sure that through Wood Badge training you will be able to make an even greater contribution in providing quality leadership that will benefit the Scouting program for our youth. It is our sincere hope that you can arrange your time and commitments to be able to join others for this learning experience. We are confident you will find the time well spent and thoroughly enjoyable. POWDER HORN TRAINING  POWDEHORN

Powder Horn is a 6-day course on high adventure resources to help Scouts and Scouters learn how to implement high adventure activities into their troops or crews. Adult leaders from all Scouting programs and Scouts age 14 and older are eligible to attend. Orange County will be offering a Powder Horn course spanning two weekends in the spring of 2015.

The course is designed to introduce and expose Venturing and Boy Scouting adult unit leaders to the activities and resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor/high adventure unit-level program. It is based on the eight core and eighteen electives found in the Venturing Ranger program. It is intended to help adult leaders get out of the box in finding and using resources and in the way they lead their unit-level high adventure programs. No high adventure skills are taught in this course. It is designed to have some disciplines introduced with a hands-on segment. Example: For scuba if a pool is available, it is suggested to do a Discover Scuba (PADI) session where participants get into a shallow pool and wear scuba gear. It is not scuba certification. Participants will not learn how to rock climb or shoot a skeet course, but will learn where to go to find those who can teach these skills to Boy Scouts and Venturers.
