Sailing Program

The Newport Sea Base is a wonderful place to learn to sail, and to continue to develop your sailing skills.  We offer introductory classes for younger beginners (ages 8 to 10) in our “Beginning Sailing Class” as well as those older youth (ages 11 to 18) who are sailing for the first time.  Our program doesn’t end with beginning sailing though.  We offer many opportunities for youth to grow in their knowledge of the sport and use their skills in competition.

Our fleet includes two types of 8 foot training boats: Walker Bay 8’s and Vanguard Prams.  We also boast a new fleet of six Vanguard FJs and six 420’s as well as our Harbor 20 keelboats.

Below you fill find our class descriptions.  To see dates, times, and availability of classes, see our schedules of classes.  All classes are offered in the summer, with most classes available in the fall or spring.
