The Orange County Council 2008 Trailblazers / National Youth Leader Training (NYLT) course will take place from Saturday, June 21 to Thursday, June 26 at Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley.
Leadership and team building skills are an important part of the course. Throughout the week, Scout youth leaders from Orange County Council will be living, camping and learning together as members of a Patrol and Troop. Experienced youth and adult staff will assist in the training process.
A mandatory Downhill meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 7 from 9:00 – 11:30 am at the OCBSA Council Offices for both Scouts and their parents.
For Participants
Trailblazers is for Scouts at least 13 years old, who attained the rank of First Class, attended week long summer camp and are currently filling a leadership position or showing possible future leadership potential.
The course stresses two areas that will benefit your Troop:
- Scout craft skills and how they can be passed on to other members of the Troop and Patrol, and
- Leadership skills that will make the youth leader more effective. Scouts, who apply, MUST be recommended by their Scoutmaster.
The highly trained staff is developed from youth who have graduated from the course themselves and are leaders in their own Troops. Adult staff provide supervision, support and a safe atmosphere.
For Staff / Volunteer Leadership
The TRAILBLAZERS / NYLT Summer 2008 youth leadership training program needs experienced volunteers who will be able to provide the best possible training. Staff course dates are scheduled for Friday, June 21 to Thursday, June 26 at the Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley. There will be an Orientation Day, Staff Development Days and the Downhill meeting prior to the course.
