Scouting for Food is an annual service project sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council and the Girl Scout Council of Orange County.
All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and their units organize food drives in their community, at their school or church and collect food from their neighbors. Scouts are encouraged to fill five grocery bags full. In addition, Scout units are needed to volunteer to collect food at a designated site on Collection Day. Scouting for Food benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Sponsors include Albertson’s, and the Orange County Register.
Items may be collected at any time during Scouting for Food Week November 1-8, 2008, and outside Albertson’s stores on Collection Day, Saturday, November 8. All food must be delivered to a drop-off site between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Collection Day.
Orange County! This giant food drive supports Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County by serving hungry people in Orange County. Food must be delivered to a drop-off site on November 8. Your District’s collection is listed below.
Both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are committed to helping where they are needed. Every can and box of food helps. Last year 125,000 pounds of food were collected. Let’s challenge ourselves to exceed this total and collect even more food.
Scouts: Collection bags will be available at the Roundtable on October 9 for pick up by unit leaders. Please make sure to have at least one person from your unit attend.
There are a few ways to do Scouting for Food:
|
Collect items from family, friends, and neighbors. All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are encouraged to collect five bags full of food. Preprinted grocery bags will be available from your service unit in October or November. Boy Scout units may also wish to coordinate food drives in their community, through their charter organization or schools. All food collected must be delivered to a drop-off site on Collection Day, November 8.
Volunteer with your troop/group at an Albertson’s store. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in uniform will solicit donations and collect food from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on November 8 at an of 15 LDS churches located throughout the county. A list of Albertson’s stores are available in this packet.
Explore Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Arrange an outing for your troop to visit the Food Bank and take a tour. Find out about the programs offered to help feed the hungry. Scouts can volunteer to help.
