Are You A Friend of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting is the OCBSA's biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need your support to help Scouting flourish in Orange County.

Every Boy Scout Council across the United States host an annual “Friends of Scouting” campaign to raise the needed funds for direct support of it operations and programs.

These donations help fund programs such as Cub Scout Day Camp, Boy Scout Summer Camp, Trainings and After School Programs that bring the experience to kids that might not have the opportunity to join a “traditional” pack or troop.

If you have not donated to the Friends of Scouting program this year, become a Friend of Scouting today by donating at your local unit presentation or by send a donation directly to the Orange County Council.

Dates Announced for Wilderness First Aid Basics Program
The Wilderness First Aid Basics program to meet the requirements for organizations based in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, but is a good basic course in backcountry emergency response for almost any location. This 20 hour course is for those who work, live or play in remote areas – away from the usual EMS service. Even though the emergency workers near these areas may be trained to search for and rescue those in need, there may be a delay in the notification of assistance, the time required to get to the patient, or in moving the patient to more advanced treatment.

This class covers assessment and urgent first aid techniques, but not in-depth CPR. Basic first aid skills are covered, making this course appropriate for anyone regardless of experience level. No prerequisites are required. A certification can be issued that has an expiration of 3 years and serves as a Basic First Aid certification as well. A minimum age of 15 is recommended for participants due to the serious nature of the course and scenarios.

Course dates Saturday and Sunday, June 14 & 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Newport Sea Base; 1931 West Coast Highway.

The cost to attend is $150 and is due no later than June 1, 2008. ONLY the first 30 paid participants are guaranteed a spot in the class. Contact Joe Aschenbrenner (714) 546-4990, Ext. 102.
