Life To Eagle Project Workshops
The Orange County Council Advancement Committee invites Scouts, parents and leaders to an interactive workshop detailing the Eagle Rank process from project inception through preparation for the Eagle Character Board of Review.
Separate Break Out Sessions For Boy Scouts
Parents, leaders, Star Scouts and Life Scouts interested in learning about the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project and Eagle Rank requirements are invited to attend. Boy Scouts will attend a separate break-out reviewing the requirements and helping them to identify potential project ideas.
The workshops can be attended at your choice of location. The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, from 9 – 11 a.m., at the Newport Sea Base, 1931 West Coast Hwy Newport Beach, CA 92663.
R.S.V.P. is not required but is appreciated in order to determine the amount of class materials needed.

Upcoming OCBSA Exploring Activities
Exploring is a co-educational, work-site based program, Exploring gives youth an opportunity to visit community organizations and explore the dynamics of various careers. Local community organizations initiate an Explorer Post by matching their people and program resources to the interest of young people in the community.
The result is a program of activities that help youth pursue their special interests, while discovering a world of career possibilities.

OC Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor’s Association Hosts Gold Awards Banquet
The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor’s Association will be holding their Annual Gold Awards Banquet on Friday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the brand new Newport Coast Community Center located at 6401 San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Coast. Admission is $10 and dinner will be served. Please let me know ASAP if you will be able to attend so I can give the organizers a head count.

FOS 100% Report Meeting Reminder
Thank you to those who attended our 95% FOS report meeting; it was a wonderful morning of baseball, trivia and “Take Me Out To The Ballgame.”
Congratulations to El Camino Real District!!!!
El Camino Real District has maintained their lead and are currently at 109% of their Friends of Scouting. Congratulations to Ron Draper, Jim Peterson and Courtney Enloe and their entire team for their achievement and continued leadership in our campaign!
The next report meeting for the 2008 Friends of Scouting campaign will be the 100% Victory Celebration and will take place on Wednesday, June 4 at the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting office at 6:30 pm. Each district is asked to report their progress and share a success story about their campaign. Anyone who helped with Friends of Scouting in 2008 is encouraged to attend and share some ideas and have some snacks.
Currently, the council is at 79% or $1,265,619 of the $1,623,000 goal.
Cans for Criters Seeks Scout's Assistance
If you love animals and want to make a difference in the world, the Zoological Society of San Diego needs you. The Cans for Critters program gives children of all ages the opportunity to help save endangered species all over the planet while cleaning up our own backyard.
All funds raised through the Cans for Critters program benefits the Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES) center, which has dedicated three decades to improving the health, well-being, and breeding potential of rare and endangered species such as the giant panda, California condor, black rhino, and cheetah.
In 2006-07, OCBSA Pack 714 collected 15,737 items and raised $638.22. During 2007-08 the Pack nearly doubled that amount, collecting 21,679 items and raising $1105.33 with the help of 42 Pack members.
Other fun facts to consider:
- 14 Scouts earned a patch for recycling more than 200 items,
- 21 members were invited to a special jamboree with animal presentation at the Wild Animal Park and received a patch for recycling 400+ items, and
- 7 members received an additional to free tickets to the Wild Animal Park or San Diego Zoo and were also invited to the jamboree and special patch for recycling 1,000+ items
