Scoutreach gives special leadership and emphasis to urban Scouting programs. It is a program that represents a commitment by the Boy Scouts of America to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood or ethnic background.
Today, many of the youth in Orange County are at risk, facing rampant drug abuse, gangs, violence and poverty. These can lead to a continuing cycle that works against young people becoming productive adults.
Scoutreach meets the developmental needs of urban youth by re-directing a child’s energies away from negativity and limitations to a healthy can-do attitude through Scouting’s programs.
Scouting, by emphasizing ethics and moral values, addresses many of the social concerns of parents. Scouting also prepares youth to be leaders, to accept responsibility and to care about causes beyond their own self-interest.
Our biggest asset in urban neighborhoods is a well-defined program based on values, learning-by-doing, fun and positive role models.
Through collaboration with organizations like the Santa Ana Unified School District, Project Success in Costa Mesa and Project Access in Newport Beach. Scoutreach has been successfully reaching with predominately Hispanic and Vietnamese youth in hard to serve neighborhoods by assisting with membership fees, Scouting uniform purchases, providing bilingual on-site leadership and implementing well-planned weekly activities.
Scoutreach programs benefit almost 6,000 Orange County youth annually.
All gifts to Scoutreach are tax-deductible. Tax ID # 95-1727660.
