Eagle Scout Cameron Owens Honored as 2012 Adams Award Recipient

During a three month period in the fall of 2012, Cameron Owens implemented a large multi-layered funding strategic plan to fully fund the construction and delivery of 100 wheelchairs for at-risk, spinal cord injured people in Mexico, Vietnam and India.  He was able to rally over 300 local Orange County students to participate in a Wheelchair-A-Thon, with the top student fundraisers earning a chance to compete in a wheelchair basketball event against the high school faculty.  In addition to this event and presentations at local service clubs, Cameron raised over $18,000, enough to build, not 100 wheelchairs, but 282 wheelchairs!  He then organized a Troop trip to Rosarito Beach, Mexico where he and a large volunteer team assembled the wheelchairs and met with the handicapped users in cooperation with local Mexican medical personnel.

The project was in partnership with the non-profit organization, “Free Wheelchair Mission”, which has served over 670,000 special needs people in over 86 countries.  Well done Cameron! We are proud to call you our 2012 Glenn and Melinda Adams Award winner!
