Over 400 Scouts, Scouters and Parents gathered as St. Joaquim’s Catholic Church last Saturday for the annual Catholic Scouting Religious Awards Mass. The ceremony was presided over Bishop Tim Fryer, who himself was an Explorer while in high school, where he also received the Pope Pius XII award.
Many Cub Scouts from across Orange County received their Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei Awards, several of whom are from Pack 818 Serra Catholic School in Rancho Santa Margarita are seen smiling in the above photo. There were also two trailblazing girls who received their Parvuli Dei award: Katherine A. from Pack 654 and Megan U. from Pack 629. Congratulations to these young ladies who forged a milestone in OC Scouting History.
27 Boy Scouts received their Ad Altare Dei award. Four Scouts and Venturers received the Pope Pius XII award and Jonathan B. from Troop 691 in Irvine received the Pillars of Faith award by earning all four traditional Catholic Awards. A remarkable accomplishment!
12 Scouts from all levels of the program received the St. Frances Award for service to the community above and beyond the common Scout service duties. The Pope Paul VI Award for quality Catholic Units was presented to Pack 620, Troop 604, Troop 671, Troop 691, and Crew 1910.
The prestigious Vic Rogers Youth Award for exceptional service was presented to Alison D. from Bishop’s Crew 1910.
Adult service awards were also presented. This year’s Bronze Pelican’s were awarded to Michael B. of St. Thomas More Parish, Julie F. of St. Hedwig’s Parish, Roger L. of St. John Newmann’s Parish and Tait S. of St. Bonaventure Parish.
The St. George Award was presented to Diana P. from Blessed Sacrament Parish, Ron Y. from St Bonaventure Parish and Marty C., Staff Advisor to the Catholic Committee on Scouting.
Finally, the Msgr. John F. Sammon Award was presented to Deacon Nick Sherg from St. Martni de Porres Parish for his outstanding leadership as the Chaplain of the Catholic Committee on Scouting the past several years.
