OC Explorer receives the National Exploring Scholarship

Jessica Costescu has been a member of the Cypress Police Department Exploring Post 1036 since 2017. She has over three years of experience volunteering with the Cypress Police Department Explorer Program and the West Orange County Community Emergency Response Team.

Jessica has been selected from a field of exemplary Law Enforcement Explorers nationwide to receive the National Technical Investigators’ Association Captain James J. Regan Memorial Scholarship. Jessica was selected for her demonstrated superlative performance and participation in life skills, citizenship, leadership, and character education experiences that add to the quality of life. Additionally, Jessica was selected as a 2020 United States Presidential Scholar, one of the highest awards the Nation can bestow upon a graduating high school senior.

Jessica has completed over 1,000 hours of volunteer work in the areas of law enforcement, community training, city and school events. She was selected as her high school’s Student Ambassador her senior year. Also, she has received special recognition from the City of Cypress for being accepted into the FBI National Academy Associates Youth Leadership Program in 2018, and in 2019 the National Law Enforcement Exploring DEA Leadership Academy. Both prestigious programs took place in Quantico, Virginia. She will be receiving her Associate of Science in Administration of Justice from Cypress College, thanks to her high school involvement in their Dual Enrollment Program.

This fall she will be attending Georgetown University and will be studying International Politics at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. It is considered one of the world’s leading international affairs schools.
